Our Judges


At Caesarstone, we aspire to design excellence. This is why we are proud to present our judging panel, made up of design industry heavyweights; Stefan Antoni of SAOTA, Juliet Kavishe of IID, Michele Rhoda of ARRCC, Jonathan Anstey of Anstey Architects and Dorothy van’t Riet of DVR Design & Décor Consultants. Together, these five highly-experienced professionals come together to judge the 2024 Caesarstone Student Designer Competition entries.

Stefan Antoni

Stefan Antoni is a director of the multi-award winning architectural practice SAOTA, which has carved a niche for itself locally and internationally with powerful designs that respond dynamically to context and brief.

Juliet Kavishe

Juliet Kavishe is a Vice President of the International Council of Design (ICoD), a Professional Interior Architect and Design Educator with a wealth of experience locally and abroad. She is also a board member of the Pan Afrikan Design Institute (PADI), which strives for design excellence and social design responsibility across the African Continent.

Michele Rhoda

As one of the Directors of award-winning international firm ARRCC, Michele believes that a strong work ethic and the ability to earn trust with her clients is paramount to the success of their designs.

Jonathan Anstey

Managing Director of Anstey Architects, Jonathan Anstey has been in the architectural industry for over two decades having designed numerous projects throughout his career; from schools, hospitals and airports, to convention centres, housing estates, and game lodges.

Dorothy van’t Riet

Dorothy van’t Riet is the current CEO of The African Institute of Interior Design Professions (IID) and a former co-opted Executive Board Member of The International Federation of Interior Designers/Architects (IFI). She is now a Regional Leader. She is the founder & creative director of multi award winning Dorothy van’t Riet Design & Décor Consultants operating locally & internationally. Dorothy has a heartbeat for the continent of Africa. She has actively been involved in interior design education for over 20 years. Besides running her interior design business & projects , Dorothy also offers masterclasses & online lectures in interior design & décor.

Previous Judges

Stephen Falcke is a world-renowned interior designer who studied at London’s Chelsea School of Art before returning to South Africa. Although primarily based in Johannesburg, Stephen is noted for his work in homes around the world.

Mphethi Morojele

Mphethi Morojele is the founder and managing director of MMA Design studio, based in Johannesburg. His practice has won numerous design awards and recognition both locally and abroad.

Donald Nxumalo

Donald Nxumalo – As the mastermind behind DNX Interior Design, Donald has been gaining accolades from clients across Africa, for his flawless interior designs. Projects have included consular offices in Tanzania, a hotel in Uganda and the homes of many celebrities in South Africa.

Mokena Makeka was the guest judge and author of the 2022 Caesarstone Student Designer Brief, titled From Ashes We Rise. Mokena is an accomplished architect, artist, creative, curator, global leader, scholar, speaker, and urbanist. He is committed to social transformation and cities of spatial and ecological justice.

Rashiq Fataar

Rashiq Fataar is an urban practitioner and the founding director of Our Future Cities (OFC) – an urbanism organisation and consultancy based in Cape Town, South Africa. For over a decade Rashiq Fataar has worked collaboratively with government, businesses, and citizens on projects to shape cities, communities, and spaces to become more future-focused, innovative, and inclusive. OFC has been recognised as one of the leading platforms for cities, urban sustainability and planning in Africa.
