Our Judges


At Caesarstone, we aspire to design excellence. This is why we are proud to present our judging panel, made up of design industry heavyweights; Stefan Antoni of SAOTA, Juliet Kavishe of IID, Michele Rhoda of ARRCC, Jonathan Anstey of Anstey Architects, Dorothy van’t Riet of DVR Design & Décor Consultants, and this year’s guest judge and author of the 2022 brief, architect and thought leader Mokena Makeka. Together, these six highly-experienced professionals come together to judge the 2022 Caesarstone Student Designer Competition entries.

Stefan Antoni

Stefan Antoni is a director of the multi-award winning architectural practice SAOTA, which has carved a niche for itself locally and internationally with powerful designs that respond dynamically to context and brief.

Juliet Kavishe
Juliet Kavishe

Juliet Kavishe is one of the Directors at the African Institute of the Interior Design Profession (IID) and a Professional Interior Architect with a wealth of experience locally and abroad. She is also a board member of the Pan Afrikan Design Institute (PADI) which strives for design excellence and social design responsibility across the African Continent.

Michele Rhoda

As one of the Directors of award-winning international firm ARRCC, Michele believes that a strong work ethic and the ability to earn trust with her clients is paramount to the success of their designs.

Jonathan Anstey

Jonathan Anstey is an international group director of Anstey Steynberg Architects, based in Johannesburg

Dorothy vant Riet

Dorothy van’t Riet is the creative director and principal interior designer of her company Dorothy van’t Riet Design Consultants, based in Johannesburg. As the founder of the DVR Design Academy, Dorothy has also for many years been actively involved with interior design education, offering many courses to aspiring interior designers.

Mokena Makeka – Guest judge

Mokena Makeka is the guest judge and author of the 2022 Caesarstone Student Designer Brief, titled From Ashes We Rise. Mokena is an accomplished architect, artist, creative, curator, global leader, scholar, speaker, and urbanist. He is committed to social transformation and cities of spatial and ecological justice.

Previous Judges

Stephen Falcke is a world-renowned interior designer who studied at London’s Chelsea School of Art before returning to South Africa. Although primarily based in Johannesburg, Stephen is noted for his work in homes around the world.

Mphethi Morojele

Mphethi Morojele is the founder and managing director of MMA Design studio, based in Johannesburg. His practice has won numerous design awards and recognition both locally and abroad.

Donald Nxumalo

Donald Nxumalo – As the mastermind behind DNX Interior Design, Donald has been gaining accolades from clients across Africa, for his flawless interior designs. Projects have included consular offices in Tanzania, a hotel in Uganda and the homes of many celebrities in South Africa.
